Surah At-Takwir (التكوير) — The Overthrowing

1. Ayah 1

   بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ إِذَا ٱلشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ

   When the sun is put out

2. Ayah 2

   وَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ ٱنكَدَرَتْ

   and when the stars fall down

3. Ayah 3

   وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ

   and when the mountains are blown away

4. Ayah 4

   وَإِذَا ٱلْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ

   and when pregnant camels are left untended

5. Ayah 5

   وَإِذَا ٱلْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ

   and when wild beasts are gathered together

6. Ayah 6

   وَإِذَا ٱلْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ

   and when the seas are set on fire

7. Ayah 7

   وَإِذَا ٱلنُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ

   and when the souls ˹and their bodies˺ are paired ˹once more˺

8. Ayah 8

   وَإِذَا ٱلْمَوْءُۥدَةُ سُئِلَتْ

   and when baby girls, buried alive, are asked

9. Ayah 9

   بِأَىِّ ذَنۢبٍ قُتِلَتْ

   for what crime they were put to death

10. Ayah 10

    وَإِذَا ٱلصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ

    and when the records ˹of deeds˺ are laid open

11. Ayah 11

    وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ كُشِطَتْ

    and when the sky is stripped away

12. Ayah 12

    وَإِذَا ٱلْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ

    and when the Hellfire is fiercely flared up

13. Ayah 13

    وَإِذَا ٱلْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ

    and when Paradise is brought near—

14. Ayah 14

    عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّآ أَحْضَرَتْ

    ˹on that Day˺ each soul will know what ˹deeds˺ it has brought along

15. Ayah 15

    فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلْخُنَّسِ

    I do swear by the receding stars

16. Ayah 16

    ٱلْجَوَارِ ٱلْكُنَّسِ

    which travel and hide

17. Ayah 17

    وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ

    and the night as it falls

18. Ayah 18

    وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ

    and the day as it breaks

19. Ayah 19

    إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ

    Indeed, this ˹Quran˺ is the Word of ˹Allah delivered by Gabriel,˺ a noble messenger-angel

20. Ayah 20

    ذِى قُوَّةٍ عِندَ ذِى ٱلْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ

    full of power, held in honour by the Lord of the Throne

21. Ayah 21

    مُّطَاعٍ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍ

    obeyed there ˹in heaven˺, and trustworthy

22. Ayah 22

    وَمَا صَاحِبُكُم بِمَجْنُونٍ

    And your fellow man is not insane

23. Ayah 23

    وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْمُبِينِ

    And he did see that ˹angel˺ on the clear horizon

24. Ayah 24

    وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى ٱلْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ

    and he does not withhold ˹what is revealed to him of˺ the unseen

25. Ayah 25

    وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَٰنٍ رَّجِيمٍ

    And this ˹Quran˺ is not the word of an outcast devil

26. Ayah 26

    فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ

    So what ˹other˺ path would you take

27. Ayah 27

    إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَ

    Surely this ˹Quran˺ is only a reminder to the whole world—

28. Ayah 28

    لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَسْتَقِيمَ

    to whoever of you wills to take the Straight Way

29. Ayah 29

    وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

    But you cannot will ˹to do so˺, except by the Will of Allah, the Lord of all worlds
