What should I say when I hear thunder?

When hearing thunder, it is recommended to remember Allah and reflect on His majesty. A common and beautiful practice is to recite a supplication based on a verse from the Quran that describes the thunder praising its Creator.

The primary supplication is: "Glory is to Him whom the thunder glorifies with His praise, and the angels from the fear of Him." This directly echoes the words of Allah (Quran 13:13). It is authentically reported that when prominent companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ heard thunder, they would pause their conversations to recite this declaration of faith.

Additionally, it is reported that when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ heard the sound of thunder and lightning, he would say, "O Allah, do not kill us with Your wrath, and do not destroy us with Your punishment, and pardon us before that" (Jami at-Tirmidhi 3450). Reciting these words brings tranquility and a sense of protection during severe weather.
